I developed a community mobile mural project to bring focus to the youth in and around Elkader, Iowa. Our youth is the future of our communities, especially in rural Iowa. I facilitated this project to nurture community belonging in our youth and families. Weaving ourselves, families, and local communities together through art-making is my way of building a support system. Through sustainable support systems, each member feels linked together through bonds that are long-lasting, ever-changing, and held together much as this mural is both permanent and transportational. In the mural, each participant is represented and engaged with the contributions of others in their community. Although this project was based on youth collaboration, parents, and various community members were encouraged to create alongside the youth to further engage in community practice.
