Reflecting on this photo series work I question my lack of feeling whole both at home and in Minneapolis. I carried a poster board to my favorite places to learn about their interaction. It feels like in all my favorite places a part of me, a part of feeling whole, is abstracted through a physical location, mental clarity, and emotional state. This place means a great deal to me, it has been my grounding. ‘Removing’ this piece of myself and practice has been a disruption in my peace. My shift in understanding this work is that I in fact did not remove anything from the picture and I did not digitally add/subtract. This is a poster board in nature. It is an addition. How can I reshape my way of thinking of this “removal” of a part of myself and see it for a true or variation of self, an addition to the space, and be okay with it? To be okay with it not being the same as its surroundings but still being of and in conversation with the unknown. I like the unknown of myself and my practice. I want to be in the unknown. I want to be with the surprises that lie between. I enjoy the surprises and questions that foster my practice and understanding. Having a questioned-based practice can be confusing, challenging, and deeply rewarding.

partial refraction/reflection in a “blending of reality”… this is caused by the angle of incidence using a partially reflective surface (glossy white foam board) and sunlight. note this is not a full reflection such as a mirror acts or total refraction as that would be caused through a transparent surface into another surface.
