Dynamic Harmony
My adventure with Dynamic Harmony began in August 2019 and revealed itself quickly to me as a body of work within six months. The original series contained 20 pieces comprised of a wide variety of media including wood, metal, plaster, glass, paper, paint (oil, acrylic, watercolor, tempera, and spray paint) charcoal, pencil/pen, chalk, vinyl, vellum, paper pulp, wire, string, plastic bags, and any other material I could experiment with. As this collection grew and expanded I found myself engulfed with research and inspiration. My driving force while creating became concepts and ideas that challenged and inspired me. While working on my second major in Psychology, I noticed this area of my life influencing my studio work. Psychology gave me structure and a way of communicating and understanding the work I had not experienced previously. My studio life started to reveal a side of myself that could appreciate the balance of chaos and order. In this balance, I discovered and purposely engaged in working towards a flow state. A flow state is a term in positive psychology known as 'being in the zone' of energized focus. Flow is accessible when task difficulty and user ability are both high. This is the state of mind I started every artwork with and why I chose to challenge myself with the material, size, and time length of this series.
